IDW Publishing continues with with the comic book series based on the popular Back to the Future franchise. In Back To The Future #2, time-travelers Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) are reunited once more as their origin stories are explored .

As we perviously mentioned, Back to the Future followed teenager Marty McFly (Fox) who found himself in the '50s, thanks to scientist Dr. Emmet Brown (Christopher Lloyd)'s time machine. Marty meets the younger versions of his parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson), who turn out to be nerds.  After disrupting events of his mother and father's timeline, Marty has to make sure that they fall in love, or he will never exist.

We also mentioned, Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale and John Barber, have thankfully erased nothing from canon. Continuing after the events of Part III, Doc Brown is still living happily ever after with his two kids and wife, Clara (Mary Steenburgen). The narrative now follows Doc's progression as a mature and quirky father with his adorable children.

In the second installment, Gale and Barber tell the origin story of how the time machine came about. With the Cuban missile crisis happening, Doc has to serve his country and come up with an inventions to save innocent lives. Doc has to figure out if he actually wants to give up his invention, his own creation, to someone else.

The artwork by Marcela Ferreira captures a youthful and animated caricature of the principal character. With his exaggerated expressions, Doc is wild and zany during his younger days. Now older and with children, Doc is drawn a bit calmer and wiser, as if family life has changed him for the better.

RATING: MUST BUY
