Now that ISIS is claiming responsibility for the horrific attacks on Paris from this past Friday, much talk has been stirring about fighting with the group. Tuesday night's GOP debate focused partially on the American military, with Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio calling for a stronger army. But if you ask comedian Bill Maher, it looks as if wiping out ISIS with a strong military is rather impossible.

During Friday night's Real Time, Maher addressed the attacks in Paris, asking his panel – made up of Dylan Ratigan, Michael Steele and comedian Jay Leno – "Why do they hate us?"

After some talk about terrorism and Muslim religion, Maher turned his attention to the Republican debate, noting that the biggest cheers from this past Tuesday's event came from the GOP candidates who explained that we all must "kick a$$ militarily."

Upon speaking about Rubio and Rand Paul's heated exchange over military funding, Maher showed video of the latter admitting that the United States pays more on the U.S. military than the next ten countries – combined!

"If we're already ten times what all the other countries combined are," Maher said, "why do we have to keep adding to it?" Which led to an interesting conversation about "wiping out" ISIS, something Maher admits is an impossible feat – largely because "they would melt back into the population."

Ratigan stepped in to echo something Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has been saying. "What about the rest of the world? ... Why are the American tax payers the only government, the only person that's supposed to fund and solve the Middle East?"

Steele claimed that the United States has always taken on the role of being the one to solve problems, admitting, however, that this war appears to be different.
