President Obama is known to be something of a basketball junkie. He's a die-hard Chicago Bulls fan with a pretty tidy jumper, and his knowledge of the game is almost second to none (want to know who won the 76' college national championship? He's your guy). But Obama took it a step further when he told Bill Simmons in a Q&A for GQ, that he wouldn't mind being an owner of an NBA team.

Here's the exchange:

Simmons: "Would you ever want to be part of the ownership for an NBA team?

Obama: "Absolutely."

Simmons: "Would it have to be the Bulls, or would it have to be somebody else?"

Obama: "Well, you know, I know [Jerry] Reinsdorf pretty good--he's not giving that thing up anytime soon. But I have fantasized about being able to put together a team and how much fun that would be. I think it'd be terrific."

There is a problem with Obama owning an NBA team, though. It costs a ridiculous amount of money to be an owner. Like, yachting with friends on the weekend just because you can, not because you want to, type of money. Obama, meanwhile, is just very well to do.

According to disclosure reports, via NBC Sports, Obama's net worth is between $2 million and $7 million. However, the smallest allowable share (1%) of the least valuable team ($600 million MIlwaukee Bucks, according to Forbes, via NBC Sports) is $6 million.

At the very least this type of money predicament would cause a stern conversation with the missus--perhaps a position in the NFL then?

"Well, I'm best suited for basketball," Obama told Simmons. "But I cannot believe that the commissioner of football gets paid $44 million a year."

That sounds like a maybe. Either way, a position in sports might be something the President entertains after the conclusion of his second term. In the meantime, don't be surprised to see him lacing it up at a gym near you.
