Will Smith Calls Marriage to Jada "Difficult" and "Excruciating" [WATCH]

Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have been together for 20 years, and the actor admits that their marriage has been "difficult, grueling, and excruciating". But the 47-year-old actor explains that they are not quitters.

Smith spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the Los Angeles premiere of his movie, Concussion, on Monday, explaining how they keep their marriage going.

The 47-year-old former The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star said, "We've been married 20 years and we've been asking ourselves [what’s the secret to marriage] and really at the end of the day it’s just not quitting".

Smith continued, "You can’t expect it to be easy. It’s like our marriage was the most difficult, grueling, excruciating thing that we have ever taken on in our lives. And you know we're just not quitters."

The actor believes the key to maintaining a good relationship is to always try and be a better person. He stated, "I would say is that we never went into working on our relationship. We only ever worked on ourselves individually, and then presented ourselves to one another better than we were previously."

Will and Jada met in 1995 when she auditioned for the role of his girlfriend on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They felt she was too short for the role, but the couple struck up a real-life relationship.

They married on New Years Eve in 1997 at Baltimore's Cloisters Mansion when Will was 29 and Jada was 26.

The Smiths have been married for almost 20 years and share a 17-year-old son, Jaden, and a 15-year-old daughter, Willow. The actor also has a 23-year-old son named Trey from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino.

Will and Jada are frequently hit with divorce rumors as well as reports that they have an open marriage.

The Gotham actress spoke to Howard Stern about the rumors on his SiriusXM show, stating, "Look I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher. I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man."

The Magic Mike XXL star continued, "Here’s what I trust. The man that Will is, is a man of integrity. So he’s got all the freedom in the world. So as long as Will can look at himself in the mirror and be OK? I’m good."

Smith also admitted she is fine with whoever Will has a crush on, something Howard didn’t agree with at all.

Jada insisted, "You have to. Just because your man is attracted to another woman doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you. It doesn’t mean he’s going to act on it."
