Starring in one of the biggest and most iconic film franchises of all time can be tough – just ask Daisy Ridley. The 23-year-old British star of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens says at first, filming was incredibly tough, partly because her director J.J. Abrams had some harsh words for her in her first few days on set.

In an interview with Glamour's U.K. edition, Ridley says that she was already terrified on her first day, and Abrams didn't help. She says, "J.J. [Abrams] ... he probably doesn't remember telling me that my performance was wooden. This was my first day!" She goes on to say, "I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was going to cry. I couldn't breathe."

The star's experience didn't end there, though. To make matters worse, the incident happened in front of a lot of people. Ridley says, "And there was so many crew there, because obviously all the creatures [had stand-ins], and there were loads of extra crew making sure everyone was safe because it was so hot. It was awful."

Ridley, who plays Rey, a scavenger in a ship graveyard and possible daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia, says that despite the rough start, her experience on the film has been great. Of her time on the project, she says, "My experience has been incredible, I've felt supported and respected the whole way through."

And it seems it all worked out in the end, as iconic director Steven Spielberg told Ridley that he has seen the film not once, not twice, but three times. It's safe to say if the film warrants three viewings, it must be good, right?

Ridley says she's nervous to find out. "I haven't seen the film yet – I kinda want to, and I kinda don't," she says.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters in the U.S. on Dec. 18.
