The Walking Dead aired its Season 6 midseason finale on Sunday, and Deanna is apparently off to the great Alexandria in the sky after a zombie bit a chunk out of her leg. In a new interview, Tovah Feldshuh reveals some other endings for her character that she had pitched to showrunner Scott M. Gimple.

Deanna went out like a warrior during the episode. Rather than take the easy way out and shoot herself, she decided to stand and face a group of walkers and go down swinging. But Feldshuh, who sat down with Entertainment Weekly for a post-mortem interview, had a few other ideas for how her character could exit the show.

"I thought she should try to interconnect the various pods of humanity," she said. "She would have to find another Alexandria. Nobody knows whether we’re completely alone out there. We know we’re not. There have to be other pods of survivors. It’s beyond comprehension that every decent human being is dead. I wanted Rick (Andrew Lincoln) to be my brawn, to be my Colin Powell, to be my great general, and I wanted to be the political brains behind a building web linking one decent community to another, even if it was just a dozen people. And somehow we would do away with this walker situation."

It's interesting to hear Feldshuh say this because this does eventually come to pass in some way in the comic books. The residents of Alexandria come into contact with the Saviors, the group led by Negan who provides "protection" for the communities around Alexandria in return for half of their supplies. But in Feldshuh's vision, Deanna would have been the one to link her community with others.

She also had one other idea that would have had far-reaching implications for the series.

"My other idea is that even though I have been bitten, I’m the one with the cure. It’s in the blood," she said. "I’m the one with the immune ability somehow to survive it. But that’s yet to be seen."

The actress also made clear that Gimple gave her plenty of advanced notice about her character's fate, and she knew deep down that everyone joins The Walking Dead to die.
