Fans of The Walking Dead were abuzz with the announcement that Jeffrey Dean Morgan had been cast as Negan for the end of Season 6 and into Season 7. In a new interview, the actor previews how excited he is for his role.

Morgan spoke to Entertainment Weekly and, in the true spirit of his character, said that he is "really f*cking excited" to take on the role. He talked about how fans have been saying to him for years that he would make a good Negan, so he started reading the comic book because he was a fan of the show. So when his agent and manager told him about the offer, he knew immediately what the role was and jumped in without a second thought.

Of course, fans are now wondering how Morgan will bring Negan to life, particularly because the character drops roughly four f-bombs per speech bubble in the comics, amid some other colorful language. But the actor assured fans that he and the show will do all they can to keep Negan as true to his roots as possible despite the limitations of basic cable television.

"Look, it's a speed bump. I'm not going to say it's an issue because they're working on it. We're going to push AMC - the plan is to push them as far as they can because it's who Negan is. He uses some colorful language. And I use some colorful language. And reading the comic, it's important. So we'll see where that lands. It's our intention that this character is going to leap off the pages of the comic book. It's very important that that's who it is. Some of the characters there's much more leeway, but Negan is a guy that you want to keep as true as possible, and that would be how I want to play him as well."

Entertainment Weekly also asked if Morgan met Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn. Most Walking Dead fans know that Negan famously debuts in issue 100 of the comic by killing Glenn with a baseball bat. Morgan would only say that he met everyone of the cast members, then laughed and said he doesn't know what's going to happen yet.

Finally, Morgan confirmed that he saw the baseball bat named Lucille and "she is a beautiful girl." That's good for Morgan, who admits he "grew up with a bat in [his] hands."
