'Lucha Underground' Season 2: Mark Burnett, Robert Rodriguez Set 2016 Premiere Date On El Rey!

From Emmy award-winning Mark Burnett (Survivor) and Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn) , Season 2 of Lucha Underground has set its 2016 official premiere date on the El Rey Network. Get ready for some freestyle wrestling and high-flying in January!

As we previously mentioned, El Rey presented audiences with the world of Lucha Libre, the no-holds barred world of freestyle wrestling and high-flying aerial maneuvers. In Mexico's most popular sport, the masked villains and heroes confront against each other in one-on-one matches. El Rey Network, the Survivor creator, and United Artists Media Group announced that their wrestling series is returning for a sophomore season. Lucha Underground was heading back into production in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.

In his statement, Burnett mentions, "We brought together some of the best athletes from lucha libre and wrestling to fight in Los Angeles this year on Lucha Underground. It was fresh, it was compelling and it got the attention and created buzz across the entire wrestling world."

According to Wrestling Zone, on their official Twitter account, Lucha Underground tweeted, "#LuchaUnderground Season 2 premieres Wednesday January 27 at 8pm ET on @ElReyNetwork. See you real soon, Believers!"

Before the official premiere, there will be 5 hours of back-to-back episodes from the first season on Wednesdays 8pm beginning January 6th. Then there will be an epic weekend long, 40-hour marathon of the entire season from Saturday, January 23 at 10 AM to Sunday, January 24 at 2 AM.

Season 2 of Lucha Underground will premiere Wednesday, January 27 at 8pm.
