USA's Donny! S01E05 Boom Boom Abs: Donny Deutsch, Star Jones Finale Recap

USA Network continues Season 1 of their new comedy, Donny!  In Episode 6, Boom Boom Abs!, creator and star Donny Deutsch (Donny himself) needs help from his producer Pam (Emily Tarver) and Star Jones about keeping his big mouth shut.

During his talk show, Donny is getting exhausted as he exercises with the trainer. As the physical trainer shows off his abs, Donny doesn't think he could get ripped as a black guy's. Donny doesn't realize he's being offensive as he jokes around about black abs. 

As the audience gasps, Donny makes matters worse, mentioning his black friends. After being made fun of in Black Twitter, Donny gets a lecture from his own trainer. his assistants Zoe (Meera Rohit Kumbhani), Violet (Jessica Renee Russell), and Jackie (Hailey Giles) shows the YouTube video of him being mocked.

In a business meeting, Donny has to deal with the consequences of his racist remarks. Pam bows her head in shame as Donny says he is a positive racist. Pam reminds them that Donny isn't racist; he's an idiot. The board members want Donny to bring in a publicist to fix this situation, or he gets fried. 

Trying to justify himself, Todd shows Pam the differences between white and black abs. In front of his publicist, Donny is getting lectured about what he has to say. To show his dumb heart, Donny has to say he got carried away and get involved in charities with donations. Donny even asks his publicist out on a date but she hesitates saying yes.

His assistants warn Donny about showing off his black friends. After being called a jerk, Donny delivers a fake ad for the upcoming movie, Sisters. After meeting with Russell Simmons and Star Jones, Donny doesn't know to stop saying stupid stuff.

On his date with the publicist, Donny realizes he has to do more than an apology tweet and a big check. His assistants warn Donny that he's falling in love too fast with the publicist. Feeling his Gandhi moment, Donny wants to give racy hugs. 

On MSNBC, Donny gets in an argument with the hosts and columnists. Making his apology, Donny talks about racy hugs and attempts to give one. On the streets, none of the random pedestrians want Donny to touch them.

It turns out cry hugs has become a viral disaster. Back at the board meeting, even the publicist gets punished. Just as he is about to be fired, the spoof videos showcase children who are into racy hugs. Donny's huge failure has become a slam dunk.
