As the 2016 presidential election comes in full swing, Washington is gearing up for the White House Correspondents' Dinner. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that The Nightly Show lead Larry Wilmore will fill the role as the host of the night's event, making many around D.C. undoubtedly curious as to what he'll have in store for the political names and journalists in attendance.

Moreover, given that Wilmore's Comedy Central series centers largely on politics and world news, it's a certainty that he'll have no shortage of material.

And, yes, some finely-crafted Donald Trump jokes as well.

The 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 30. Wilmore noted on Twitter that he was "beyond excited" for the event.

A Wall Street Journal White House correspondent, WHCA President Carol Lee, said of Wilmore's announcement:

"Larry's edgy, even provocative, brand of humor means he's certainly up to the task of skewering politicians of all ideological stripes, and we don't expect the nation's news media to escape unscathed, either."

Lee further stated that she, and the entire White House Correspondents' Association, is excited to have Wilmore onboard with the event.

Naturally, given that President Barack Obama's term is coming to a closing, the 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner will be his last in office. Which means that he probably won't be holding back.

Last year's dinner was hosted by Saturday Night Live's Cecily Strong, who performed to rave reviews from several outlets.

Folks, what do you think about Wilmore being named as the host of the 2016 Correspondents' Dinner?
