Red wine appears to be the real life Michael's Secret Stuff (haven't seen Space Jam? Shame on you). There are the obvious health benefits associated with a nice bunch of grapes--it also has been known to boost confidence, if consumed to the proper degree--but it also gives one the ability to perform sporting activities at an exceptionally high level. Take Terence Newman, for example. The 37-year-old defensive back for the Minnesota Vikings is well into his second decade in the league, and yet, he's playing like a spry 22-year-old fresh out of college. What's his secret? Simple, red wine.

"Red wine is the key," said Newman, via the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Get it in your veins, baby. Keeps you strong."

At 37, Newman is the oldest corner back in the NFL. So when he says something like this people listen--especially his younger teammates.

"Newman is a vet, he's been in the league so long and young guys are sitting there saying: 'He's been in the league this long because of the red wine,'" said safety Robert Blanton, via The Wall Street Journal. "Now everyone's drinking it."

After Newman spilled the grapes on his secret, all of his defensive teammates ran to the store to buy a bottle. Maybe even two. And while some hadn't had a taste of the stuff in years, it was a unanimous thought that it made them better.

"Whatever [you're] doing, drink some red wine and you'll do better," said cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, via The Wall Street Journal. In fact, it's perhaps the very reason plays like this are possible:

According to the Journal, Red Wine has become a staple at the Vikings' Monday Night viewing parties. Newman has suggested a nice $20 bottle of Meiomi Pinot Noir for teammates just looking to wet their palates. Although, Newman himself enjoys something a little richer in flavor. Pricier, too. He orders cases of DuMol Pinot Noir and samples different organic wines from the Northwest. And while he does admit there is no hard evidence to red wine being the fountain of youth--just like there's no hard evidence that a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich is universally delicious--he's doesn't see any reason to stop drinking it.

"Physically I've been gifted to be able to play this game, I do not know what else to attribute it to. I'd say it's my love of wine," Newman said, via The Wall Street Journal. "Whether or not that's true you'd have to do some studies. But I'm sticking to it and I'll keep drinking red win."
