NXT Champion Finn Balor has been on fire since his arrival in WWE, and he retained his title against Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover: London earlier this week. But prior to that, Balor made an interesting comment when he said a main roster promotion would be "detrimental" to his career.

Balor recently appeared on Sam Roberts' podcast and discussed the possibility of a promotion to the main roster in WWE, where he would appear on the flagship shows Monday Night Raw and Thursday Night SmackDown. Most would think of this as a promotion, with more exposure to the larger fan base and likely more money in his pocket.

But Balor doesn't necessarily see it that way. In fact, he thinks a main roster promotion would actually hurt his thriving career.

"I really believe that what we're doing here in the [WWE] Performance Center [and] what we're doing with NXT is something that's going to be remembered for years," he said. "I feel like to get quote unquote called up to the main roster would be, maybe, like a step back for my career right [now]. Obviously, instant gratification, you get called up to the main roster, that's great, but I think what we're doing here in NXT will stand longer in history as kind of like a revolutionary period and to kind of pull myself out of that would be detrimental to my career in the long term."

On one hand, it's clear that Balor has a passion for what he is doing down in NXT, and he should feel that way. He's been doing fantastic work and has connected with the crowd each and every time he's stepped through the curtain.

But on the other hand, one can't help but wonder if Balor looks at the struggles several NXT stars have had on the main roster. Maybe he's decided he doesn't want to deal with that at all.

Sasha Banks, one of the best characters to come from NXT, is floundering in a so-called "Divas Revolution" and acting like a female New Day member. Neville has had some excellent matches but almost no story. Bo Dallas is almost irrelevant.

So you can't blame Balor for wanting to be the big fish in a small pond instead of another fish in the ocean, especially when the small pond is crystal blue and the ocean is poisoned.
