Jessica Simpson will soon return to acting by starring in an NBC sitcom loosely based on her life. The show will be developed by Fashion Star producer Ben Silverman and written by Nick Bakay whose credits include Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Zookeeper.

"I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy," said the songstress. "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"

According to Silverman, "We are thrilled to team up with the multi-talented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops. From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."

"Jess really wants to get back into acting. She's been taking lessons for more than a year, and though she's been meeting with producers, no offers have come in. So she's taking matters into her own hands," said an insider close to Simpson. Supposedly she will bankroll the sitcom herself and may get her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson, to co-produce.

The 35-year-old vocalist's previous acting credits including playing Daisy Duke in the 2005 film remake of the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, being the love interest of Dane Cook in the 2006 rom-com Employee of the Month and starring in the 2007 Working Girl inspired remake Blonde Ambition. She also has experience being a TV star, having appeared in the MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica with ex-husband Nick Lachey as well as being a judge on Fashion Star

The new series will finally give her a chance to combine her knowledge of television with her love of comedy.

"I'm not at my peak. I hope not," claimed the "My Only Wish" vocalist to E! News. "I still have so much more I have to do! I've gotten married––twice, I've had two babies. What have I not done that I want to do? Maybe a TV show that I create!"

The mother of 3-year-old daughter Maxwell Drew and 2-year-old son Ace Knute claimed she would love a plot about a "married mom who runs a successful business."
