Morgan Freeman, known for his deep and soothing voice as well as his acting chops, is currently involved in a National Geographic Channel documentary about religion and neuroscience and, for it, he recently visited notorious Illinois serial killer Brian Dugan in a creepy turn of events.

Earlier this week, The Chicago Tribune revealed that Academy Award-winning Freeman recently visited Dugan at the Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet, Illinois, as he interviewed the serial killer as part of a six-part documentary he's currently shooting.

The people behind the documentary – titled The Story of God – chose to interview Dugan, a serial killer and rapist, due to his frankness when it came to admitting to his horrific crimes.

Dugan, currently 52, was active between 1983 and 1985 in the western suburbs of Chicago, and was in Illinois' death row until capital punishment was abolished, his sentence then turned into life in prison. He was found guilty of three murders and a series of unrelated sex attacks, the most disturbing of which was a 10-year-old girl whom Dugan abducted, raped and then killed, then confessed his crimes via a letter to the media.

The idea behind the documentary is to "show glimpse into the mind of a man who has claimed he is repentant for his crimes, but also admits that if he were back in society, he is sure he'd be unable to keep himself from returning to his former life," said the team behind the docu-series, via NBC Chicago.

According to The Republic, the episode centered around Dugan also features neuroscientist Kent Kiehl, who's worked with the subject of criminal psychopaths for years and even authored the book The Psychopath Whisperer, in a voyage to reveal the way these serious cases of mental illness can be treated and even caught before the patients hurt someone else.
