As fans await the last installment of Milla Jovovich's zombie series, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, a member of the crew suffered a freak accident on set while prepping a scene in Cape Town, South Africa, causing the death of 34 year-old Ricardo Cornelius.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the German production company behind the sequel, Constantin Film, has recently confirmed Cornelius' death at a rehearsal for one of the scenes, as he became trapped between a Hummer and a wall in a tragic accident at one of South Africa's capitals.

The horrible event happened on Dec. 3 as the crew was prepping for a scene in the last days of filming, as principal photography for the 2017 zombie movie wrapped on Dec. 9.

Executives of the Munich-based production company, which was also responsible for award-winning film Downfall, have offered their apologies to Cornelius' family, calling the event a "tragic accident, which was out of anyone's control," though an investigation regarding the events is still happening, as authorities dig deeper into how he was crushed to death.

Cornelius' widow, Shafiefa, recently gave a lengthy interview to IOL regarding the death of her husband, recounting her husband had only been part of the film's crew for five weeks after being unemployed for a year. And to make matters even more tragic, the grieving widow added that the two were days away from their 10-month wedding anniversary.

"His heart stopped and they were fighting for his life but managed to revive him again. The doctors said his lungs were completely flat and he was bleeding a lot," said Cornelius, recounting her husband's time at the hospital.

The widow also told the outlet that nobody has been able to tell her exactly what happened and that his colleagues blocked her on WhatsApp, making it impossible for her to know more about her husband's death.
