Freddie Gibbs - Thug Till It's Over (prod. by Cookin' Soul)

By alex-galbraith-mstars-reporter | Dec 20, 2013 10:13 AM EST

The last I heard from Spanish DJ duo Cookin' Soul was their excellent bachelor pad bomp on Fiend's 2012 track "PSA Your Lady." So, I'm glad to hear they are still plugging away at their easy-listening beats at the end of 2013. Their latest team-up is with critically adored, perennially under-the-radar rapper Freddie Gibbs on his new track "Thug Till It's Over." Read More »

Some people are just the worst, As we previously wrote, Dev Hynes (better known by his stage name of Blood Orange) lost all of his worldly possessions and his dog in a terrible apartment fire. The mother of Hynes' girlfriend started a crowdfunding campaign to help the singer get back on his feet. Of course, this left the perfect opening for Guardian contributor Holly Baxter to decry rich people abusing crowdfunding for selfish reasons. Read More »

Beyonce - Grown Woman [Music Video]

By alex-galbraith-mstars-reporter | Dec 19, 2013 02:25 PM EST

Beyonce's "Grown Woman" music video largely reiterates the themes of the Pepsi commercial in which it premiered. The video finds Queen B staring down her past (this time through strangely edited home video instead of mirror demon Beys) and showing her evolution from young talent show standout to full-blown world-beating diva. The first three minutes are a VHS-like stroll through Beyonce's past, but that isn't the reason you should watch her latest video. Read More »

Pussy Riot Members Will Be Freed From Prison

By alex-galbraith-mstars-reporter | Dec 19, 2013 01:35 PM EST

Last time we reported on the potential for jailed Pussy Riot members to be freed from prison, it came with a lot of "if's." IF the amnesty bill passes and IF it is determined that the jailed PR members fall under the new law. Well, we're happy to report that both of those variables have been accounted for and the two remaining jailed members of PR will return home. Read More »

By alex-galbraith-mstars-reporter | Dec 19, 2013 01:23 PM EST

While much of the world has been swept up in a wave of King Bey fever, there are a few places who are less than happy with Beyonce's surprise, digital-first release of her new album: namely, Target. The bastion of old media didn't like that Bey's record-smashing album was released exclusively through iTunes and they let B hear it. Read More »

Daft Punk and Kendrick Lamar are both nominated for Album Of The Year Grammy awards, so it makes sense that the Academy would ask them to perform some of those year-defining tracks. Still, it's nice to see the robots and K-Dot getting one of the biggest stages in all of music. Read More »

While HAIM's debut album is showing up high on year-end lists across the land, I can think of at least one person who isn't a fan of the sister trio. Johnny Marr bashed the band behind "The Wire" in his recent column for NME. Read More »

A Very Megadeth Christmas

By alex-galbraith-mstars-reporter | Dec 18, 2013 02:40 PM EST

While Dave Mustaine has spent the last few years being kind of a d-bag, at least he can still laugh at himself. Mustaine and the rest of his influential heavy metal group Megadeth donned ugly sweaters and gamely appeared in a commercial for a fake Megadeth Christmas album. Read More »
