The last I heard from Spanish DJ duo Cookin' Soul was their excellent bachelor pad bomp on Fiend's 2012 track "PSA Your Lady." So, I'm glad to hear they are still plugging away at their easy-listening beats at the end of 2013. Their latest team-up is with critically adored, perennially under-the-radar rapper Freddie Gibbs on his new track "Thug Till It's Over." Read More »
Some people are just the worst, As we previously wrote, Dev Hynes (better known by his stage name of Blood Orange) lost all of his worldly possessions and his dog in a terrible apartment fire. The mother of Hynes' girlfriend started a crowdfunding campaign to help the singer get back on his feet. Of course, this left the perfect opening for Guardian contributor Holly Baxter to decry rich people abusing crowdfunding for selfish reasons. Read More »

Beyonce's "Grown Woman" music video largely reiterates the themes of the Pepsi commercial in which it premiered. The video finds Queen B staring down her past (this time through strangely edited home video instead of mirror demon Beys) and showing her evolution from young talent show standout to full-blown world-beating diva. The first three minutes are a VHS-like stroll through Beyonce's past, but that isn't the reason you should watch her latest video. Read More »

Last time we reported on the potential for jailed Pussy Riot members to be freed from prison, it came with a lot of "if's." While HAIM's debut album is showing up high on year-end lists across the land, I can think of at least one person who isn't a fan of the sister trio. Johnny Marr bashed the band behind "The Wire" in his recent column for NME. Read More »

While Dave Mustaine has spent the last few years being kind of a d-bag, at least he can still laugh at himself. Mustaine and the rest of his influential heavy metal group Megadeth donned ugly sweaters and gamely appeared in a commercial for a fake Megadeth Christmas album. Read More »
