Scott Weiland has officially been kicked out of the Stone Temple Pilots according the alternative-rock band’s brief statement this morning: "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." According to a spokeswoman for the band, this straight-to-the-point statement is the only comment on the situation from the band at this time, leaving fans with no solid explanation for the sacking. Weiland recently announced that he would be performing songs from Stone Temple Pilots’ Core and Purple on his upcoming solo tour. Last year he said that Core would be performed in its entirety by the full band on a fall tour, but that never happened. So perhaps Weiland was jumping the gun and the rest of STP got sick of it? In 2008, Weiland was also kicked out his other band, the super group Velvet Revolver. In regards to his firing from VR Weiland stated, "The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time.” Last year Velvet Revolver reunited for a one-off set consisting of 4 songs. Just yesterday, the 45-year-old Weiland said in an interview with Rolling Stone that Stone Temple Pilots were still a band and that he was very much a part of it. "STP has not broken up. I haven't quit. I haven't been fired," he said in response to rumors started by former VR bandmate, Slash. "Slash doesn't know anything about STP," Weiland reportedly told Rolling Stone. "We're talking right now about when we want to tour next." He continued, referencing a possible line-up change to reestablish the band, "My personal feeling is that we need some new blood in the band. We've been playing the same greatest hits set since we got back together. I'd like to make a new record. It will breathe new life into the group." Just like with Velvet Revolver, Weiland admitted in the interview that Stone Temple Pilots have had their fair share of disagreements throughout their career. He said, "There were some hurt egos. But that's the way it is. No one has ever fired anybody in STP. We're like a family. It's also a partnership. I started the band. We've always kept things going. We've taken time off before. They've done their own projects and I fully support that. No one has been fired and I haven't quit. That's all hearsay." Unfortunately that “hearsay” turned into today’s statement from the other members of the band (Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz). Sorry Scott!
