Writer J.K. Rowling is sharing 12 new stories based on popular Harry Potter characters from her magical wizarding world leading up to Christmas 2014. From Dec. 12 to Dec. 23, fans of the novelist can enjoy brand new material from Rowling, with some familiar characters, all published to the Potter fan website, Pottermore. Acclaimed writer and producer Roberto Orci was about to take over the director's chair for the yet-to-be titled Star Trek 3 movie, but this week we learned that he didn't get the job. Reports aren't clear as to whether or not he turned down the job, or something else happened, but for now the Into Darkness scribe is remaining as a producer for the popular Star trek reboot movie franchise, which Orci helped start with director J.J. Christopher Nolan blew audiences and critics away with his 2014 sci-fi epic film, Interstellar. Now new rumors that popped up this week might have revealed his next big project: Ready Player One. This is a film about a young gamer in the 1980s that discovers a treasure hunt in a virtual reality world. Does this sound like Nolan's type of movie project? Ryan Reynolds has been trying to make a Deadpool standalone movie for quite some time now. Over the summer, reactions to "leaked" test footage of Blake Lively's husband performing a motion-capture portrayal of the Marvel Comics antihero definitely helped studio heads at Fox want to move forward with the film. Since then, we've heard updates about a release date in 2016, director Tim Miller signing on to helm the project, and even a PG-13 rating coming into play. The Australian horror movie, The Babadook, looks like a move that will go down in history as one of the scariest of 2014 and possibly all time. With rave reviews praising director Jennifer Kent for her magnificent filmmaking, will she decide to continue the terrifying tale of this children's story gone wrong with a sequel? The 2014 Doctor Who Christmas special, entitled "Last Christmas," is premiering on Dec. 25 - the first time in the series' history - and just this week Steven Moffat revealed more details on the episode's plot. Season 9 of the BBC's Doctor Who is sure to be full of some of the best episodes of the series' history, but this week we learned that we could see the return of one of 2014's best characters: Missy! We now know this character as the female version of The Doctor's Time-Lord nemesis, The Master, but we might just prefer this updated character played by actress Michelle Gomez.
