Since opening September 21, 2012, Brooklyn's Barclays Center has hosted a number of huge events outside of it's usual gig as the home of the Brooklyn Nets. Jay-Z opened up the arena with a string of concerts, then a number of big performers visited the Barclays Center such as the Rolling Stones and Barbara Streisand. In addition, Beyonce and Rihanna have concerts scheduled in the summer of 2013. However, another major event will be taking place in Brooklyn this year. The eighth annual Afro-punk Festival will be held in Brooklyn this weekend (Aug. 25-26) and will feature headlining musicians Erykah Badu, Janelle Monáe, and Gym Class Heroes. The event - which celebrates the growth and talent of indie and alternative cultures within the Afro-punk movement - is free to the public and will take place at Commodore Barry Park starting noon on Saturday.
