The Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, L.A. Clippers, Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies are all jostling to sign dumped Detroit Pistons star Josh Smith after the forward was stunningly waived by his former team yesterday with $26 million remaining on his contract. Smith will clear waivers Wednesday and reportedly the Rockets — with Smith's good friend Dwight Howard leading the charge — are the frontrunners to sign the former star and current wayward walking inefficiency. The Detroit Pistons have waived Josh Smith, with $26 million still remaining on the contract star forward signed with the NBA team last year (which the Pistons still have to pay). Pistons Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Stan Van Gundy told Smith the news this morning in a meeting, and early indications are that the L.A. Clippers, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks are interested in picking up the 6 ' 9" combo forward. Even it's a move to free up space for star center Andre Drummond, power forward Greg Monroe, similarly under-performing point guard Brandon Jennings and second-year guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, simply waiving Smith a remarkable move. Justin Bieber and Rob Gronkowski added some star power to the Los Angeles Clippers's locker room last night, Dec. 1, with the pair hanging out and joking around with Clippers superstars Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul in L.A. after an impressive win. But does that mean the Pats's NFL season is sunk? The pop superstar — who has attended numerous Clippers games this year, what with the L.A. Lakers being terrible, and the star New England Patriots tight end, along with some of his other Pats teammates, including running back Jonas Gray — headed to the Staples Center locker room after the Clippers's 127-101 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves to celebrate and take photos with Clips players. As ESPN reported, Gronkowski and his teammates — who lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 26-21 over the weekend — were "taking advantage of some time off in California" before the Patriots take on the San Diego Chargers this Sunday. Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and many other Clippers stars took rookie C.J. Wilcox to a night club, and they forced him to dance while the majority of their roster watched on, laughing at him. He might well of felt alone for that minute, but the Clippers evidently believe that bonding will bring them together on the court, which could better their title chances. Read More »
