Shocking news of the day: Lionel Messi was the best soccer player on the planet in 2015. OK, that's not all that surprising. If you watched just 5 minutes of one Barcelona game over the past year you know why. The guy is incredible. Spanish for "the flea," the diminutive Argentine International is known for reaping havoc on opponents with his mesmerizing footwork and never ending hunger to score goals. Just the other day, Messi posted a picture congratulating Kobe Bryant on an incredible career. Now, he's exchanging Instagram pictures and phone numbers with the best shooter in the NBA, Steph Curry (there's no tangible evidence to confirm the phone number bit, but it's understood--presumed, rather). The Kobe Bryant farewell tour is in full effect. Since the announcement of his retirement the headlines have shifted from the incessant talk of Kobe's poor shooting night, to the glorification of an NBA icon (what a relief, too! That other stuff gave all the feels of nails slowly raking down a chalkboard). Everybody wants to get in on the act--from fans, to players, to celebrities, to your cousin's grandma who's never actually watched an NBA game in her life. Alex Morgan must love making history. After winning the 2015 Women's World Cup with the USWNT and taking part in New York City's first Ticker Tape Parade for female athletes, Morgan will once again be part of another historic milestone by appearing on the video game cover of FIFA 16 alongside international football superstar Lionel Messi. The UEFA Team of the Year nominations are out. Premier League stars Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, Thiabaut Courtois, Diego Costa, Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez make the nominee list, but will their nominations be turned into a place on the elite team? Gareth Bale, now of Real Madrid, is also on the list. The list stands as a 55-man shortlist which will be cut down, with many of the stars missing out. The Neymar and Paris Hilton dating rumors are all but over, as it's been near enough confirmed that he's dating Serbian sweetheart Soraja Vucelic. He ditched Hilton, an American model, for a European model. The star forward plays for Barcelona and Brazil, but while enjoying some off-time last summer, he was pictured partying in Ibiza with Hilton, and many fans held hope that the two would form some kind of relationship, but sadly Soraja has changed that in the blink of an eye. The new Real Sociedad manager made his coaching debut for the La Liga side and all eyes were on him, but as he usually does, Lionel Messi stole the show shortly before, according to the BBC. His hat trick in a 5-1 win for Barcelona ensured that he became the all-time top scorer for La Liga with 253 goals. With this record in place, Spain and the world soon forgot about the ex-Manchester United manager as all took joy in watching Messi make history, adding to the view that he's the best player to ever play the game. Messi was one short of the record, but a free-kick put him on level terms, and his two second-half goals ensured the 27-year-old will forever be a La Liga legend, according to the BBC. His coach, Luis Enrique, told the BBC: "He's a unique player — there'll never be anyone like him and we're lucky to enjoy his presence here. Giancarlo Stanton was an unknown newcomer not so long ago, but now, as well as becoming one of the biggest stars in the MLB, he is now up there with the best-paid athletes in world sport.
