This year's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will mark a major event in comic book adaptations history: feminist icon Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, will make her first live-action appearance in a major film. With months away from the premiere, the star is currently shooting her first solo film as Amazon the princess Diana Prince -- and DC just launched the movie's first footage!

The first look of the upcoming film came during last Tuesday's special on The CW, DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League, where a lot of what will be going down in the DC Cinematic Universe was introduced for the first time. Considering Wonder Woman is one of the most popular superheroes in the DC mythology and the film adaptation is currently shooting, it makes sense that there was a lot of juicy material about the Amazon princess.

According to CNET, in the newly released footage, the film's cast and crew spoke of not only the upcoming film but also the importance of bringing such a big female superhero to life.

"Wonder Woman is one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don't know her origin like they know Superman's origin or Batman's origin," Geoff Johns, DC Comics CCO, told director Kevin Smith in the recent special. "What we want to do in this film is tell people who she is, where she comes from and she does what she does."

Io9 reports that, while there's no dialogue in the new footage, it still brings fans a step closer to what they can expect from the superhero brought to life by Lynda Carter back in the 70s. Still, there are some interesting clues as to what to expect from the film, including soldiers from World War I (which co-star Chris Pine had already discussed, via Slash Film) and her training back home in Themyscira.
