Rodger Bumpass, best known for voicing Squidward Tentacles on the cartoon series Spongebob Squarepants, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Burbank on Friday evening. Bumpass was reportedly twice the legal limit. Now, the voice actor is claiming cops lied about parts of his arrest.

Burbank police officers responded at around 11 p.m. Friday, locating the 64-year-old voice actor leaning against his blue PT Cruiser that was parked in the middle of the street.

Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco stated, "The officers reported that the man walked away as they approached and that he was very unsteady on his feet and nearly fell. The man … displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication."

Bumpass reportedly admitted to driving to the location and said he was trying to return home. He was then unable to pass the field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.

The voice actor's breathalyzer test that showed his blood alcohol content was well over the legal limit of .08 percent, twice the legal limit. Bumpass was released from jail the following morning after posting $15,000 bail.

TMZ has reported that he is claiming police officers lied about his arrest and that he was not leaning against his car.

He admits he was drinking at a bar and was on his way home when cops started following him. He was pulled over and was asked if he had been drinking, which he admitted. He agrees that he failed the field sobriety test.

Bumpass' character, Squidward Tentacles, stars as the rude friend of Spongebob Squarepants on the cartoon and films. He has voiced the character since its debut in May 1999.

Bumpass has also utilized his vocal talents in television cartoons including Rugrats, Timon & Pumbaa, CatDog, Invader Zim and Teen Titans and animated films such as A Bug's Life, Heavy Metal, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
