The return of Gotham Season 2 may have been all about Victor Fries (Nathan Darrow), but there is no denying that B.D. Wong's Hugo Strange was a major scene-stealer in "Mr. Freeze" and he is up to no good. Wong recently spoke to Comic Book Resources, where he discussed what makes Strange tick and Theo Galavan's possible transformation into DC comic book character Azrael.

"He's a mad scientist in that he's obsessed with some kind of thing he sees as progress," Wong said of Strange before explaining the villain's mindset.

"'I'm going to be the guy who believes science is changing the world. I don't really care what the consequences of what I'm doing are. I'm changing the world.' There's something God-like about that," he said.

Although Strange did not appear in the midseason finale of Gotham Season 2, he was referred to by his right-hand person Miss Peabody (Tonya Pinkins), who stated, "Professor Strange has high hopes for this one," when presented with Galavan's body. The Jurassic World star confirmed Strange's interest in Galavan.

"He knows that Theo Galavan was a brilliant supervillain," Wong revealed. "He wants to study the human brain, pull it apart and put it back together in ways I can't go into detail about right now. But, he wants to do that in a way to understand the criminally insane."

The Mr. Robot star also addressed speculations that Strange is responsible for the resurrection of Galavan and eventually turning the villain into Azrael. When it was mentioned that James Frain has been seen on the Gotham set wearing Azrael's armor, Wong presented the possibilities behind Galavan's return.

"If that is the case, they should be wondering what the reality of that is. What the hell could that be? How could Theo Galavan be Azrael? They should be questioning the realness of that," he said, adding that it is possible that Frain might be shooting a dream sequence.

"In other words, is that a dream or something real? They should be questioning that. That should be the most potent thing that their mind is processing. 'How the hell could Theo Galavan be Azrael?'" he concluded.

"A Dead Man Feels No Cold," the 13th episode of Gotham Season 2, will air on Fox on March 7.
