The Lonely Island guys are releasing a new film this summer, a project that had remained untitled for quite a while, but now it's been announced as Popstar. The movie will star Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg in the "world of music," and besides a new poster, there's brand new information about the Judd Apatow-directed film, including its synopsis.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures finally revealed some information about the upcoming comedy after months of secrecy surrounding the project. On it, Samberg will play Conner4Real, a rapper who's struggling to remain relevant after a bad album.

"The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he's no longer the dopest star of all," reads the synopsis, recently released through the movie's official Facebook page.

The film (full title: Popstar: Never Stop Stopping), co-stars Saturday Night Live alums Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Maya Rudolph, in a screenplay co-written by Samberg alongside the rest of the Lonely Island trio, namely Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer. The three have worked together for the better part of two decades, most famously writing for SNL and creating successful shorts like "D*ck in a Box" and "I Just Had Sex."

This will be the comedy troupe's second feature film; the first being 2007's Hot Rod, which also has Samberg in the leading role.

The Lonely Island guys continue to work together on various projects including a new variety show that will come out this year, Party Over Here, but the three have expanded their careers outside of the troupe for the past few years. Samberg has turned into the most obviously successful story out of them, as his time in Brooklyn Nine-Nine has earned him a Golden Globe Award and critical acclaim. Last year, the comedian hosted the Primetime Emmys ceremony.
