Teen Girls Can Win Internship At Marvel Studios With Science & Tech Contest

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands with multiple films and television shows, the Disney-owned studio behind this has been heavily criticized for under representing women in the big screen, though this reality is changing in the TV direction. To get back on track, Marvel Studios is pursuing an Avengers-like initiative: a contest inviting girls to pursue science and tech to win an internship!

Marvel released the exciting contest through USA Today, announcing that the Disney company had teamed up with the National Academy of Sciences' Science & Entertainment Exchange, in a program dedicated particularly to young girls, from ages 15 to 18 and grades 10 through 12.

The project, officially called the "Girls Reforming the Future Challenge," is being released as a tie-in for the upcoming superhero team-up Captain America: Civil War, and two of the MCU's most amazing ladies were in charge of launching it officially. Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch) and Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter/Agent 13) shared the news through an inside clip to Marvel Studios, saying the project had been created to encourage young ladies to get more involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers.

"I'm really excited to meet these exceptional young women who have STEM backgrounds and who maybe also want to be part of more of a creative- and science-based world," Olsen says on the clip. "And Marvel's a perfect place for that."

To participate, girls have to submit projects that they think could "change the world," along with videos of how to implement them as well as the potential reach the project might have, were it applied. Five finalists will get to travel to California to present their projects to experts, plus tickets to the Civil War world premiere, a tour of Walt Disney Studios and a $500 savings account...and the super-talented winner will get to be an intern in the place where superhero magic happens.
