James Gunn, the director of 2014's surprise box office smash Guardians of the Galaxy and the film's upcoming sequel, Vol. 2, is currently in production for next year's return to the big screen, which means he's sharing bits and pieces of information for the movie on social media. In the latest post, the director showed fans a sketch from beloved character Groot in its baby form!

Gunn, who has turned into a bit of a fan-favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe director because of how willing he seems to be to share information with fans, recently took to Twitter to share a new snap of Baby Groot, where he's holding something that's tough to figure out, though it could actually be Rocket Raccoon or some other small, space creature.

Still, the best bit about Gunn's post is how, on Facebook, he went on a long explanation about how he shoots his films -- and it turns out he does a sketch like this for every single shot he makes!

"Over the entire film I draw thousands of these thumbnails. Many of them are messy and it's impossible for anyone other than me to tell what they are," Gunn explained. "Some of them get turned over to accomplished storyboard artists to flesh out. Some of them go directly to our pre-visualization team to turn into animated storyboards. And others just stay in their primitive state."

This will be the first post of a new series on social media, as Gunn is planning to post a thumbnail of whatever scene they're working on every Wednesday left of the filming process, under the hashtag #WhatWeShotWednesday.

Guardians 2 will be the first of three films Marvel will be releasing next year, followed by the Disney-Sony Spider-Man reboot and Thor: Ragnarok. The main cast will be returning for the sequel, bringing along a few new actors, including Kurt Russell and apparently Sylvester Stallone.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters on May 5, 2017.
