There is already much excitement over the upcoming Supergirl/The Flash crossover, where Grant Gustin's Barry Allen is set to help Kara Zor-El in defeating Italia Ricci's Silver Banshee. But could Melissa Benoist's Supergirl eventually team up with another DC superheroine like Batgirl?

Benoist's recently conducted a Q&A on the official Supergirl Facebook page, where she answered several questions including one from a fan, who was hoping to see Kara working with Batman's female protégé. The former Glee actress had a surprising response, which involved a character who already appears in the series.

"I feel the same way, and Chyler Leigh who plays Alex on the show, her and I actually, we kind of have a theory that perhaps, and this is just us, we are not the authority on this, but we think that Alex could make a really good Batgirl," Benoist revealed before explaining why Kara's adoptive sister should be the crime-fighting heroine.

"She's got all the gear and the gadgets and the D.E.O to make her a really good Batgirl," she said.

Hi! Melissa here at Facebook in New York and I'm ready to take your questions!

In the comic books, Batgirl is the alter ego of Barbara Gordon, daughter of longtime Batman collaborator Commissioner James Gordon. Although the character was an excellent ally to the Caped Crusader, she is later shot by The Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke and becomes paralyzed from the waist down. The injury didn't stop Barbara from taking on the mantle of the Oracle to continue helping the Dark Knight. Niow, in the new 52, Batgirl can walk now after much physical therapy and moved to Burnside.

Although some fans might question the idea of turning Alex into Batgirl in the CBS show, it certainly offers an excellent way to introduce another beloved DC character in Supergirl.

The Supergirl/The Flash crossover event will air on CBS on March 28.
