After his seconds-long appearance in last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans are dying to see the real meat in the now-grown Jedi knight Luke Skywalker -- but will we see the death of Darth Vader's son soon? Mark Hamill, who first played Luke four decades back, recently talked about his future role in Episode 8 and his words stirred up some serious rumors.

Last weekend, the actor who created the role of Luke Skywalker was part of an event for The Kinks, hosted by The Big Issue magazine in London. As he's finishing up filming Episode 8 in the United Kingdom capital, obviously he was asked what came next for his career once filming for the movie ended.

"I finish Episode 8, and then I'm out of work," said Hamill via Den of Geek, creating a wave of theories all over the web.

Of course, many took this to mean that this would be his last time getting involved in the universe of Star Wars, something that sounds both awful and downright terrifying. Even worse: it could mean that, much like it happened with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda in the original trilogy, master Jedi Luke Skywalker could, in fact, be heading to his death.

After days of rumors of possible spoilers, Hamill himself took to Twitter to set the record straight: his statement only means he'll be done shooting for the time being, it's not an assessment of his character's liveliness in the remaining film of the new trilogy.

Disney's Lucasfilm has yet to announce the title of next year's Episode 8, but it is expected that, for at least a fraction of the film, we'll be following Force Awakens star Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she pursues her Jedi training with Luke. Earlier this year, the two actors even teased their Jedi-Padawan relationship by sharing a snap of Hamill being carried by Ridley, much like the iconic Yoda-Luke scene from The Empire Strikes Back.

Episode 8, directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), brings back Force Awakens main actors Ridley as Rey, Hamill as Luke, Carrie Fisher as General Leia, John Boyega as Finn and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren. New additions to the cast include Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran.

The film will premiere on December 15, 2017.
