The upcoming Han Solo film is well underway. As fans wait for updates on which stars will be added to the cast, a new rumor is revolving online about a potential new sidekick in the "Star Wars" spinoff.

The rumors stemmed from the recent confirmation that the Han Solo spinoff has added actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge to its list of characters. According to Variety, the highly acclaimed actress is in talks for a "key role" in the "Star Wars" Han Solo movie.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is being tapped to play a CGI-based role in the Han Solo movie. The outlet notes that the actress' role may be similar to "Star Wars" beloved character Chewbacca and K-2SO. The latter was recently introduced in "Rogue One" by the amazing Alan Tudyk.

It has yet to be revealed what Waller-Bridge's character will be called in the upcoming "Star Wars" Han Solo movie. However, it is speculated that the character may be added into Han's circle of few loyal sidekicks.

According to Gizmodo, since Variety referred to "droids," there is a chance Waller-Bridge may portray the role of a droid companion for Han in the Han Solo movie. This pattern is not new in "Star Wars" films. As mentioned, there's Chewbacca and other sidekicks that fans loved.

However, if Waller-Bridge gets confirmed for the droid companion character in the "Star Wars" Han Solo film, this would be the first female droid member in the history of the franchise. The previous droids have been referred to as males. The "Fleabag" star may finally open doors for more female droid leads in the franchise.

The upcoming Han Solo film has yet to get its title. It is slated for release on May 25, 2018 and will star Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, and Woody Harrelson. The "Star Wars" spinoff will be released before "Star Wars: A New Hope." Stay tuned for more updates on the hit franchise.
