"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is the next installment in the "Pacific Rim" franchise that started in 2013. The main premise revolves around human pilots who use Jaeger robots to duke it out with monsters from the deep called Kaiju. In the sequel, "Star Wars" actor John Boyega will join the cast together with returning characters played by Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, and Burn Gorman.

New "Pacific Rim: Uprising" photos of the new Jaegers have been released and it seems that fans will be seeing a whole new generation of fighter robots. There are three new Jaegers: red, blue, and grey. The blue one in the middle is reportedly called Gypsy Avenger, according to Comicbook Movie. It is obviously an homage to the Jaeger in the first film, Gypsy Danger, that Charlie Hunnam's character manned.

The other two Jaegers don't have a name yet, but it's clear that they will also be a tribute to the ones in the first movie, which were: Crimson Typhoon, Cherno Alpha, and Strike Eureka. The Jaegers in the "Pacific Rim: Uprising" movie have a more stylish look. Guillermo del Toro was the director behind the first movie, but he handed the reins to Steven DeKnight, who himself directed "Smallville", "Buffy", "Spartacus", "Daredevil" Season 1.

Collider called the new Jaeger designs "sleeker" and wrote that the designs will probably still change, though, throughout production and that the Jaegers in "Pacific Rim: Uprising" could undergo another transformation. The photos reveal, however, that the Jaeger project is probably getting better funding and support than it did in the first movie.

After Raleigh and Mako's defeat of the Kaijus and destroying the portal, no doubt the world governments have decided to give full support to the Jaegers. The production team of "Pacific Rim: Uprising" haven't revealed much about the actual plot of the film, but they did hint that the world will be a very different place after the events of the first movie.

Since Raleigh (Hunnam) won't be returning in "Pacific Rim: Uprising", will Mako (Kikuchi) find a new Drift partner? Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaney will be joining the film as new Jaeger pilots, although their roles have not been revealed it. Day and Gorman will also be back as the Kaiju specialists and writers have hinted that their experiments with Kaiju drifting in the last film will be explored more in the second movie, which will be out on Feb. 23, 2018.
