Its been steady stream of good news for "Star Trek" fans since CBS announced that it has begun production on the latest installment to franchise - "Star Trek: Discovery" which the network will air on its streaming site CBS: All Access this year. The most recent development for the series involves the addition of three new cast members to the show.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, actors Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy and Sam Vartholomeos have been confirmed to join the show to give life to all new characters who will serve as the crew for the "Star Trek's" USS Discovery.

Serpico will play the role of Admiral Anderson, an official of the Star Fleet. Pancholy will play Starship Shenzhou's chief medical officer Dr. Nambue. Vartholomeos, on the other hand, has been cast as Ensign Connor, a young officer of the Star Fleet who is also assigned to the Starship Shenzhou.

The three actors will play characters that are yet to be introduced in the franchise since the series will serve as a prequel to the events of the current "Star Trek" franchise. Based on the synopsis, "Star Trek: Discovery" will be set 10 years before Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock set off for their own adventure in space.

This does not mean, however, that the series will be completely unfamiliar to "Star Trek" fans as actor James Frain has been cast as Sarek, Mr. Spock's father. His character is believed to be the link that ensures consistency within the franchise.

Prior to the casting of the three new actors, "The Walking Dead's" Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo have also signed on to play crew members of USS Discovery.

Trekkies will also be excited to know that the first images of the redesigned Klingons in "Star Trek:Discovery" have been leaked by one of the actors, reported TrekMovie. The new Klingons look a lot different from the traditional designs of the alien species leading to concerns if this will affect the consistency in the new show.

Still, this was not the first time that series tried to update the Klingon look through the years. Most of the changes in the look have been explained through the introduction of the Klingon Augment Virus concept.
