Hugh Jackman Gets Fifth Skin Cancer Treatment On Nose; Urges People To Wear Sunscreen

"Logan" star Hugh Jackman has just gone through his fifth treatment for skin cancer on his nose. Called 'basal-cell carcinoma', the 48-year old actor showed his bandaged nose on Instagram and delivered his public-service announcement to have everyone wear some sunscreen.

According to Mail Online, Jackman thanked added that the treatment looks worse with the dressing off, while thanking the doctors that worked on his condition. The procedure is the Australian actor's fifth treatment within a four-year period.

Hugh Jackman has been open about his condition, People reported. According to the actor, who was known for his role as Wolverine in the "X-Men" films, it was a shock when he first learned of his diagnosis. He had himself checked out during filming of "X-Men: Days of Future Past", after a makeup artist saw a spot of blood on his nose. Jackman was then urged to seek medical advice by his wife Deborra-Lee Furness.

Basal-cell carcinoma, the condition Jackman had, is a type of skin cancer that is most common in humans. Developing in areas of the skin that are usually exposed in the sun, like the nose and neck, the condition is a slow-growing type of cancer that rarely spreads to other parts of the body.  

Luckily, the cancer is preventable with regular check ups and a constant use of sunscreen. It is possible, though, that those who were initially diagnosed with the condition may have it again within a five-year period. Currently, Jackman has himself checked every three months for any sign of cancer.

Hugh Jackman will be appearing as Wolverine for the last time in Fox's movie "Logan". Premiering on March 3, it is the third and final solo film for the X-Men mutant, which takes its cue from the comic book "Old Man Logan" by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven.
