Over the course of fourteen years, the role of Peter Parker, a.k.a Spider-Man, has been played by three actors. Toby Maguire was the first to suit up as the web-slinging superhero in the 2002 film "Spider-Man." Andrew Garfield succeeded him in the 2012 reboot "The Amazing Spider-Man," and now, the mantle has been taken over by a younger actor, Tom Holland. But when two Spider-Mans, Garfield and Holland, met in person, it was a celebration of sorts for fans of the franchise.

Garfield and Holland brushed shoulders at the 2017 BAFTA Awards, where the latter received the Rising Star Award. In a statement, Holland revealed that he met Garfield on the red carpet and had nothing but praise for his senior.

"He's a really, really lovely guy. He's everything I hoped he'd be. He is a brilliant actor. He really is fantastic. I have always been a fan of his work," ComicBook quoted Holland as saying.

The older Spider-Man actors were supportive of Holland when he debuted as the character in "Captain America: Civil War." Maguire said he was impressed by Holland's portrayal and noted that he would be great as Spider-Man. Garfield, on the other hand, said he's excited to watch "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and admitted that he's a big fan of the 20-year-old star and the character.

Meanwhile, Garfield recently revealed that the opportunity to appear on the critically acclaimed "Hacksaw Ridge" would not have presented himself if he went on to star in more "The Amazing Spider-Man" movies.

According to Toronto Sun, Garfield was already slated to appear in a few more Spider-Man movies after the sequel came out in 2014. There were even rumblings that he would reprise his role in the villain spinoff "The Sinister Six."

When Garfield was finally free from the "Spider-Man" franchise, he got the chance to play the lead role in Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" as real-life war hero Desmond Doss, for which Garfield is nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award.

Doss is a Seventh-day Adventist who served during World War II as an army medic. He is the sole conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor. During the war, he saved the lives of 75 wounded soldiers during the bloody battle in Okinawa's Hacksaw Ridge.
