Matthew Broderick has joined the star cast of "Katrina: American Crime Story" and the beloved star is anticipated to make an appearance in the new season. Matthew Broderick who was supporting Kenneth Lonergan's "Manchester by the Sea," is being cast as FEMA director Michael D. Brown.

The famous star was previously in charge of the federal disaster response team to Hurricane Katrina, reported E! News. But he resigned following a controversy surrounding his handling of the one of the deadliest national disaster in the US history. This is Matthew Broderick's first regular TV gig.

Matthew Broderick has joined Anette Bening who will play as Louisiana's Governor Kathleen Blanco. She continued to serve the nation after the disaster and did not seek re-election when her term was over. The final death toll from the storm was 1836 and most of the people were from Louisiana.

Michael D. Brown resigned from FEMA in less than two weeks after the President George Bush visited the disaster site of Hurricane Katrina. The lack of preparation for such a storm and the crippled recovery efforts and federal aid became a disgrace for the bush administration.

The most impacted areas from the Hurricane Katrina were inhabited by African/ American communities who comprised the lower income section of the society. The Bush administration did not treat these lower income communities and this added to the national outrage.

Anette Bening and Matthew Broderick are the first cast members to be confirmed for "Katrina: American Crime Story." According to Variety, the second installment in the "Katrina: American Crime Story" might include few cast members from "People V. O.J. Simpson." But this news has not been formally announced by FX.

There are high expectations for "Katrina: American Crime Story." Matthew Broderick is also a two-time Tony winner and presently appearing off Broadway in Wallace Shawn's "Evening at the House Talk."
