Director Terry George is back with another tear-jerker film, "The Promise", which revolves around a love story set during the Armenian Genocide. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, and Charlotte Le Bon. It premiered in Toronto last year and was picked up by Open Road. It will premiere in the United States on April 21, 2017.

Oscar Isaac stars in "The Promise" as Michael Boghosian, a medical student who struggles to help his small village, where Turkish Muslims and Armenian Christians live together peacefully. He arrives in Constantinople (Istanbul), which is in the middle of a political turmoil during the last days of the Ottoman Empire. Christian Bale is Chris Myers, a photojournalist who falls in love with Charlotte Le Bon's Ana, an Armenian artist. Michael and Ana bond over their shared culture, but the affair is the least of their problems when Turkey sided with Germany during the war and Armenian citizens become the target of hate crimes.

Deadline reported that "The Promise" move cast also includes Shohreh Aghdashloo ("X-Men: The Last Stand"), James Cromwell ("The Green Mile"), Angela Sarafyan ("Westworld") and Daniel Giménez-Cacho ("Tear This Heart Out"). The movie is directed by Terry George, who is well-known for his films "Reservation Road" and "Hotel Rwanda", which garnered him an Oscar nomination for Best Writing and Original Screenplay in 2004. He also won a Golden Globe award for his short film "The Shore".

The movie draws inspiration from the real events surrounding the Armenian Genocide that happened from 1915 to 1923. Over 1.5 million people died as a result of the genocide. According to Coming Soon, "The Promise" was filmed in Portugal, Malta, and Spain. Proceeds from the film will go to several non-profit organizations.

Furthermore, Survival Pictures, which produced the film, is starting a social awareness campaign about genocides in world history. The movie explores mass murders during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and historical denialism. "The Promise" first premiered during the 2016 Toronto Film Festival and will be released in the United States on April 21.
