The anime hit series “Tokyo Ghoul” Season 3 is not currently in the works. This was made clear by Viz Media, the entertainment company which distributes the anime series, among others, in North America. This is contrary to various claims that it will be returning to television this year after it was cancelled in 2014.

Who can blame “Tokyo Ghoul” Season 3 fans into believing reports when Viz Media’s sales and marketing senior director Kevin Hamric himself was quoted to have announced its return? According to the report, the anime’s return, together with “One Punch Man” Season 2 will be the biggest anime releases of 2017.

Viz Media quickly issued a denial via a press statement that said that Hamric misspoke or probably was misquoted regarding the return of “Tokyo Ghoul” Season 3. According to Comicbook, the statement also clarified that the anime that will be released in 2017 aside from the new season of “One Punch Man” is actually “My Hero Academia” Season 2.

Various reports have blamed lack of manpower as the reason for the delay in the development and production of “Tokyo Ghoul” Season 3. Members of the original team have been assigned to work on other projects. There are also those that say that the delay of the “Tokyo Ghoul” Season 3 development project is caused by the transfer of production from Madhouse Entertainment to Pierrot Studios.

When “Tokyo Ghoul” Season 3 does return in the future, Anime News Network spoilers say that the character of Ken Kaneki will be its main focus. It could be recalled that Kishou Arima almost killed him last season. The next time Ken will be seen, he will assume a new identity, Haise Sasaki, who is an Associate Special Class Ghoul Investigator. But, before he will be able to join the organization, he has to lose all his memories first.
