Tom Cruise stars in another action thriller and this time it's the 2017 "The Mummy" reboot. The remake is going to revolve around an Egyptian mummified princess who comes back from the dead to wreak havoc on mankind. It will be the first movie in the Universal Monsters shared universe. Other installments will remake the "Dracula", "Van Helsing", and many more.

The 2017 "The Mummy" reboot cast includes Tom Cruise as Nick Morton, Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet (The Mummy), Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Halse, Courtney B. Vance as Col. Gideon Forster, and Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll, among others. The movie will be the first in the Universal Monsters shared universe. Another installment that will start production soon is the "Van Helsing" remake.

Director Alex Kurtzman told Slashfilm that it was Universal Studios that approached him with an offer to make them a monster movie. He said that Brendan Fraser's "The Mummy" created that action monster movie adventure and he wanted to expand on that. He also said that "The Mummy" reboot will be full of suspense, adventure, and horror.

In terms of tone, Kurtzman also said that the remake will be more realistic and authentic. In "The Mummy" reboot trailer, viewers saw Tom Cruise waking up from a body bag. Kurtzman didn't reveal why or how, but he did say that it was a new element they were adding to the film since most monster movies make it clear who will save the day.

In "The Mummy" reboot, Cruise's character will be out of sorts and will lose control. At the same time, it will give the audience the feeling that this new monster movie will be different from what they're used to. The movie will also set the stage for Universal's other monster movies.

According to Screen Rant, the studio will be re-introducing classical monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Invisible Man, and the Wolfman among others. Also, the other protagonists that will appear in the other Universal Monsters universe will be featured in "The Mummy" reboot.

It has been reported that Javier Bardem will star as Frankenstein's monster, while Johnny Depp will play the Invisible Man. Incidentally, these two will appear together in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales", but this information could still change during production. "The Mummy" reboot will air on June 9, 2017.
