The career of a bodybuilder is a topic that rarely gets central focus on the big screen, but "Generation Iron 2" is set to continue shedding light on the bodybuilding industry. The first documentary film was released back in 2013, and now the sequel is set to hit theaters in May this year. It will feature the stories of new bodybuilders and the careers of Rich Piana and Kai Greene, among others.

Viewers will get to see new stories and bodybuilders in the upcoming "Generation Iron 2", which will be produced by the Vladar Company, Generation Iron Fitness Network, and BodyPower. The first film featured the top bodybuilders in the industry like Dennis Wolf Phil Heath, Branch Warren, and Kai Greene. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger also made an appearance in the Mickey Rourke-narrated film back in 2013.

The "Generation Iron 2" cast, meanwhile, will feature new bodybuilders and those like Rich Piana, Kai Greene, and Calum Von Moger, according to BarBend. Recently, Piana posted a photo of him on Instagram with the caption, "It's coming! Our goal is to, after all these years, break into mainstream!"

As of now, the "Generation Iron 2" documentary is set for a May release, although there's still no word on the specific date. The first film followed Heath, Warren, and Greene's preparation for the Mr. Olympia competition, but there's still no announcement which aspect of the bodybuilding industry the sequel will explore.

According to Chron, though, Piana will certainly talk about his anabolic steroid use, but the production team is still tight-lipped about the rest of the cast. The first docudrama in 2013 earned over $850,000, making it one of the highest-grossing documentary films of the year. The "Generation Iron 2" director, Vlad Yudin, said that the bodybuilding industry has grown in the last few years and a lot of viewers are excited to see more.

Nick Orton and Ollie Upton of BodyPower will join the production team as executive producers. "We're looking at the transition of bodybuilding into popular culture and the mainstream," Orton expressed. He added that "Generation Iron 2" wants to explore and develop the fitness culture for the mainstream audience.

When asked why it took so long to make the sequel, Yudin said that they were waiting for the right time and the right characters to focus on. The "Generation Iron 2" premiere is set for May 2017 at the BodyPower Expo in the United Kingdom.
