"The Amazing Race" 29 just premiered on the television screens all across the globe and yet, it has failed to draw in the kind of viewership that all its previous seasons have attracted in the past. The rating of the first episode is so poor in fact that CBS is holding off from renewing the reality show for another season until it can manage to show some improvements.

There is no explanation as to why "The Amazing Race" 29 is struggling to maintain its high ratings since it follows the same format that has worked wonders for it in the past. 11 pairs will compete in the race that spans across a number of countries including  India, Argentina, China, Poland, France, Brazil, and Zambia with the hopes of winning half a million dollars, in the end, Entertainment Weekly reports.

In "The Amazing Race" 29 episode 1, 22 contestants were given the opportunity to choose the partners that they would like to pair up with in a first-finisher, first-selector basis. The contestants had to hit luggage stores in LA to locate a suitcase that contained the flag of Panama inside it. Officer Seth came out at the top in the first challenge of the season and he picked Olive to be his partner for the rest of the race. The second and third pairs that were formed were Matt-Redmond and Logan-London respectively.

Despite the electric atmosphere of "The Amazing Race" 29, it failed to draw in the expected amount of viewership, unlike its predecessors. Only 4.4M viewers tuned in for the premiere this year, landing the show at a 0.9 demo rating, which compared to the impressive 6M viewers with 1.3 demo rating of Season 28 premiere, is quite low, Deadline reports.

The change in the time slot of "The Amazing Race" 29 might also be partially the reason for its sudden dip in ratings. However, if the reality show does not address this issue somehow and soon, it stands the risk of getting canceled by CBS.
