Syfy channel's "The Magicians" is nearing the end of its sophomore run. During the Contenders Emmy event last Sunday, the cast and producers talked about the show's themes and its source material. For its last few episodes, the show will be revealing some mind-blowing secrets and will end in a huge cliffhanger.

During the Contenders Emmy, hosted by Deadline, "The Magicians" panel discussed the themes of the show and why it was such a hit among its viewers. The Season 2 premiere garnered the highest number of viewers in the 18 to 49 and 18 to 34 demographics in Syfy's history of scripted shows.

John McNamara and Sera Gamble, the showrunners, revealed that "The Magicians" deals with a lot of real-life issues against a fantasy setting. "It's a fantasy about reality," McNamara said. He also admitted that initially he didn't want to read the source material, the books by Lev Grossman, since he wasn't into fantasy. Gamble persuaded him to, and he fell in love with the world that Grossman had created.

"The Magicians" panel promised the fans that Season 2 will end with a massive shock and a similarly huge cliffhanger. Jason Ralph (who plays the main character Quentin Coldwater) hinted that the April 19 finale will reveal who has been pulling the strings the entire time. According to the Nerdist, fans will also get their fill with numerous magical adventures, a cranky dragon, and an unrecognizable Candis Cayne as the Fairy Queen, the High Queen of Fillory.

Fans will also remember that Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley), after death, came back as a niffin, an evil shell of the person they once were. Now, this niffin Alice will return to cause more trouble. If that's not enough, the Fairy Queen and Margo (Summer Bishil), who is a lower Queen of Fillory, will be facing each other for the first time. There's a lot to watch out for before "The Magicians" Season 2 ends next week.
