A&E has since confirmed that Season 6 will not happen and that Season 5 is the end of "Bates Motel." Executive producer Kerry Ehrin, on the other hand, admitted that she is open to doing a "Bates Motel" spinoff or sequel.

A& E has finally closed its doors on a renewal of Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" adaptation following the show's final run on April 24. This comes after executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin confirmed that there is no Season 6. According to Variety, they announced during last year's San Diego Comic-Con that the series ends with Season 5. However, it may not be the end of Norma (Vega Farmiga) and Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) since a "Bates Motel" spinoff could still happen.

Ehrin talked about the possibility of a "Bates Motel" spinoff following confirmation that Season 6 is the last of the series. Ehrin said that she and Cuse are open to the idea of a sequel or a spinoff, as long as there is a good story involved.

"That depends on the situation, the idea and the point of it. Both Carlton and I get excited by specific ideas that have a real point and a meaning to them," Ehrin told Coming Soon. She added that the spinoff or sequel would need a compelling plot, given that Season 5 already tells a whole story.

Ehrin said Season 5 has a beginning and an end, so doing a "Bates Motel" spinoff would mean an entirely different story. She admitted that while she and Cuse are not against the idea, she still finds it difficult to make a sequel based on a story that has a clear beginning and end. Still, Ehrin did not rule out the possibility to see another adaptation of the show.

As it stands, it is unclear if Ehrin and Cuse can get their hands on a good idea for the "Bates Motel
spinoff and whether A&E is willing to host the show. Meanwhile, fans can watch the Season 5 finale on the network's official website.
