When Atletico Madrid and Barcelona were paired many said it would be exciting, but that it was all too familiar, as they are La Liga rivals, after all. The game had a different edge, and it was clear it was a UEFA Champions League battle.

Diego grabbed a stunning away goal which gave Madrid an away draw, giving them the advantage as they return home next week. The side had lost their star striker Diego Costa to injury, but his namesake Diego scored from 30 yards, however, Neymar returned the favour, ensuring this tie would go down to next weeks second leg.

Barcelona piled the pressure on, but to no avail, and Lionel Messi appeared lost, although it's likely he will show up in the grandest fashion of them all in the second leg, as he usually does after a less than perfect game. Messi isn't one to play below his standard twice in a row, so expect him to turn up to win next week.

Barcelona are considered a favourite to make the final, but many will think twice at wanting to play Madrid after their impressive showing in Barcelona. Both sides are hoping to win La Liga and the Champions League, but they're locked in an impressive battle to do just that, showing the Spanish football is as good as it's ever been.

Will Diego Costa return, or will Madrid have to find a way to survive without him? It's looking likely that La Liga's teams could have a big impact in this years latter stages of the UEFA Champions League final.
