American baseball shortstop, Derek Jeter, 40, is now in his 20th and final season in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees. With a $12 million contract for 2014, you better believe the five-time World Series champion needs to be in top shape.

Defying age is one thing Jeter is good at. In an interview with Men's Fitness the baseball pro reveals his workout successes and weaknesses. Yes, this baseball stud embodies some flaws!

You would think a baseball pro like Jeter would be born lifting weights, however, this was not the case as Jeter was starting his professional career. "The first time I got in the weight room I was with the Yankees in the minor leagues after I was drafted," he explained. "I didn't really ever lift in high school."

Wow! He could have fooled us! The MVP explains that life as a pro athlete is different now then when he was a kid. He explains that when he was younger kids had their hands in every type of sport. Nowadays they specialize in specific sports, such as basketball or baseball.

So how does this Yankee keep up with all the highly trained rookies?

Jeter stated that he does tons of agility training. Legs are one of the most important body parts to work on in sports he states. Here are some examples of the "Derek Jeter Workout" posted on Men's Health.

1) Barbell Squat – 8-12 reps
2) Dumbbell Deadlift – 8-12 reps

If you're one to shy away from the weight racks in the gym, just take it from Jeter. The sports star explains one of the toughest things for him starting out as a lifter was getting over the embarrassment of not being able to lift a lot of weight.

Hopefully that quote will give you motivation!

it's also necessary to keep a lean nutritious outlook on daily meals. "For breakfast it's something like an egg white omelet and oatmeal," says Jeter. "I take a quick nap and try not to eat anything too heavy for lunch."
