Gotham's leading man Ben McKenzie (who plays a young James Gordon) experienced a freak accident while on set of the upcoming Fox crime drama on Friday. The 36-year-old was celebrating his birthday on the New York City set when he hit his head so hard that he needed to get stitches.

Ben posted photos on his Instagram to keep his fans in the loop about the cut on his forehead. "Happy Birthday to me. Fight sequence gone awry. Don't ram your head into concrete pillars kids. #gotham," he wrote with a photo of himself with a large Band-Aid on his head.

Even though the gash looks intense, the injury isn't very serious. The O.C. actor shared another photo with a hilarious caption that revealed his spirits are still high and he is ready to get back to work.

"Holy concrete wall, Batman! #Gotham," the Southland actor wrote on Saturday with a picture of his open wound. Don't worry Batman and Gotham fans, Ben was in good hands and has ben Okayed to start filming again.

"Doc Sherman at New York-Presbyterian, you are a career saver," Ben wrote. "Thanks for stitching me up nice. Back to work Monday. #gotham"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gotham has received high praise from the Television Critics Association.

"Fox's buzzy crime drama, which details the origins of Batman ally Commissioner James Gordon, was named the most promising new show of the season," the publication reported in early September.

Gotham will follow detective James Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie) as he tries to defeat all the evil that is looming in Gotham City. Who saved Gotham City from all the villains before Batman... James Gordon, that's who. Tune in this fall to see what happens when James Gordon has to face The Penguin and more.

The highly anticipated show premieres on Monday, September 22.
