The Goldbergs always surrounds a real-life inspired event and this week's event is hilarious. "Mama Drama" reveals Adam's love of theater, Barry's obsession with hockey and Beverly's protective side.

This week's episode begins with the junior high school's auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar. And who wants the leading role? Adam Goldberg! And as usual, his mom Beverly wants him to land the role of Jesus even more than he does.

After auditioning for the lead role along side his girlfriend Dana, the list is posted. He gets the role of Todd the Apostle, who isn't real. His drama teacher Miss Cinoman (played by Ana Gasteyer from Saturday Night Live) admits that there were so many people that she made up apostles for the musical. "I'm at the kids table at the Last Supper!" Adam screams.

When he gets home, his mom finds him crying in his room. In a moment of weakness he tells her everything and she decides to step in and fix it. After yelling at the drama teacher and blackmailing the principle, Beverly gets Adam his own musical and he is thrilled.

Meanwhile the rest of the men in the house are having a huge fight. Murray hates traffic, which everyone does, but he hates it enough to miss out on life moments with his son. In order to miss traffic he makes Barry leave a hockey game early and they end up missing the goalie score the winning goal. Barry loses it and tells him that he will never go with him to another game.

Murray decides to go to the games without him, but quickly realizes that he misses Barry and their time together. After Pops tells him to admit that he loves Barry, Murray starts to double think his traffic problem.

Back to Adam, he is starting become power hungry and his musical is not turning out as planned. Adam and Beverly decided to do the Starlight Express on roller skates and it is not good. Beverly blackmails Erica into being the female lead, while Adam is the male lead. After Adam goes crazy, Erica quits the play and everything gets worse.

Beverly realizes that she created a monster and doesn't know what to do. Erica steps in and agrees to tell Adam that his play is horrible in order to save him the humiliation later. After she tells him the truth he actually understands and tells his mom he still loves her.

In a switch to Barry, his father owns up to his mistake and asks him to come to another hockey game with him. He agrees to stay the whole time and sit through traffic in the parking lot because he misses him. It is an adorable father-son moment that ends with them yelling at the terrible drivers in the lot.

In the end, Beverly and Erica go to support Adam as Todd the Apostle and everyone is happy. Then, in a funny switch, we see Murray back in his car saying insult after insult at the terrible drivers that surround him in traffic.
