Universal Music Group has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of Def Jam Recordings, the label credited with "spreading rap music from an underground phenomenon to a worldwide movement," all year long long with Def Jam founders Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons.

For 30 years, the greatest names in the history of hip-hop - from LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys to Rihanna and Kanye West, Public Enemy, Jay-Z, Nas and dozens more- have made Def Jam Recordings one of the most influential imprints in hip hop. Today's Def Jam roster includes an even wider range of artists like Frank Ocean, August Alsina and Jhene Aiko.

To commemorate three decades of excellence, the record label commissioned previous and current artists for the Def Jam Recording's 30th Anniversary Concert, which was held last night (October 16) at the Brooklyn Barclays Center. MStars News had the pleasure of attending the event, which truly lived up to (an even exceeded) all expectations.

Among the artists who performed were: 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Foxy Brown, Onyx, Ashanti, Ja Rule, Method Man, Redman, EPMD, Big Sean, DMX, French Montana and Rick Ross.

All of the performances were great, and focused mainly on past hits of the 80s and 90s. The night definitely had an old school feel to it, allowing attendees to reminisce and travel back to a time when hip hop was just becoming popular.

Ja Rule and Ashanti performed some of their greatest hits together including, "Always on Time," and "Mesmerize." It was great seeing these two artists perform together again. After all these years, their chemistry remains the same.

One scheduled performer whose presence was definitely missed was that of Jhene Aiko. The "Souled Out" songstress was announced by Def Jam as one of the performers, but she never made an appearance. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment and ask Aiko why she didn't show up.

On a #tbt photo Jhene posted with her daughter via Instagram, user @ladiidestiny commented: "@jheneaiko I love you n your music but explain y you weren't at Barclays tonight?! your fans wanna know! (We still love you tho lol)"

Jhene responded: "@ladiidestiny unfortunately me and my camp were told to "get the f*** out" by "workers" while I was waiting to go on stage, ....after this "worker" (male) physically assaulted a member of my management (female) ....we had to leave due to the disrespect and hostile environment. If there's one thing I can't rock with, it's disrespect.... if me and my band members were any of the rappers that were performing there, we would have never been talked to or treated in such a way. I'm sorry that I was unable to perform for you tonight.... hope to see you soon!"

Now we understand why Aiko's highly anticipated performance never happened last night. Although still disappointing, this clears up the confusion.

Overall, Def Jam's 30th Anniversary concert was pretty amazing. A bit long for a Thursday night, (from 8 p.m. to about 1:30 a.m.) but well worth it!
