After an epic three years where she's taken the world by storm, Melissa McCarthy has revealed her next role and it's a doozy. The Tammy star will apparently be tackling the role of the fairy Tinkerbell from JM Barrie's Peter Pan, with Night At The Museum director Shawn Levy is reportedly attached to helm the film.

McCarthy, the breakout star from Paul Fieg's 2011 breakout comedy ensemble hit  Bridesmaids has followed up that film's success with star-making turns in This Is 40, Identity Thief, The Heat with Sandra Bullock, Tammy and most recently St Vincent, opposite Bill Murray.

McCarthy is currently hosing down speculation about her being cast in the mooted all-female Ghostbusters 3, with former Ghostbuster Murray tagging her as one of his ideal casting choices, as E! reported, alongside Kristen Wiig, Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone. She will, however, be in Fieg's new movie Spy, and is working on The Heat 2

But as deadline.com report, McCarthy will be teaming up Levy - who has just finished the third installment in his Ben Stiller franchise with Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and is working on the Minecraft film- and screenwriter Nicholas Stoller, who directed this year's Seth Rogen/Zach Efron hit Neighbors, to deliver a "comedy adventure".

There's no story details for the Tinkerbell feature as yet, but as perezhilton.com points out, with McCarthy on board, it's not likely to be traditional Disney fare, saying "we're guessing this falls more into the spoof category than Disney canon. We're guessing some purists won't like that - but we'd say to them not to knock it before they try it."

It's an odd period of resurgence for Peter Pan, with Girls star Allison Williams starring as the boy who wouldn't grow up in NBC's live adaptation, Peter Pan Live!, alongside Christopher Walken as Captain Hook.

What do you think of McCarthy as Tinkerbell, and what it could be all about?
