American Pie's Chris Klein Engaged To Girlfriend Laina Rose Thyfault After 3 1/2 Years As Couple

He won our hearts playing Chris 'Oz' Ostreicher in the American Pie movies, but now actor Chris Klein has won over a very special lady: his new fiancé Laina Rose Thyfault. The Election star — who was once engaged to Dawson's Creek stunner and Tom Cruise ex Katie Holmes — has been dating Thyfault for three and a half years.

"Laina and I are so very happy to share our excitement with you. Thank you so much for all your support and good wishes. Happy Holidays to y'all," Klein posted to his facebook page.

People Magazine exclusively reported, Klein's representative Jaime Primak Sullivan said in a statement that "Chris and Laina are very happy and look forward to celebrating their engagement over the holidays."

 According to US Weekly, it was love at first sight for 35 year old Klein and 29 year old Thyfault, who "first met at a mutual friend's wedding". The magazine also say that Klein - who plays Drew in FX's Wilfred - "proposed in Venice Beach over the weekend". US Weekly also quoted a mysterious 'pal' of Klein's as saying that "Neither one is interested in a long engagement. So they're shooting for a summer 2015 wedding." Klein, who revealed in 2012 that he battled alcoholism and was jailed twice for DUIs before going to rehab, has had a fascinatingly up and down career after starring in the remake of Rollerball in 2002, (a notorious flop) and having his engagement to Holmes broken off in 2005. After a number of forgettable roles, American Reunion in 2012 catapulted him back into the public's eye. Klein's still best known for his role as Oz in the American Pie franchise and the dunderheaded-but-lovable Paul Metzler in Alexander Payne's Election opposite Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon.
