Big Eyes star Amy Adams was unceremoniously dumped from a planned interview appearance on The Today Show for asking to not address the Sony email hacking scandal which has seen many Hollywood celebrities have personal details leaked. The hacking — which saw the James Franco and Seth Rogen movie The Interview pulled from, then reinstated to, some theaters around the USA — has affected stars such as Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, George Clooney, Channing Tatum, Kevin Hart and many more.

Promoting her new movie Big Eyes — directed by Tim Burton, who, as Mstars News reported, has split from longtime partner Helena Bonham Carter — Adams was told that her interview would not go ahead.

As deadline.com report, "Adams stayed in New York an extra day to do the Today booking, but just before, her team was told she would be asked about the Sony attack. She came to the set, and again a producer told her she would be asked. She replied that she would prefer to avoid the subject, given this was a four-minute interview."

"After she expressed that she'd rather not discuss the Sony hack," a source told US Weekly. "She was not aggressive or freaking out... It is unfortunate. Amy didn't do anything wrong and they pulled the interview."

According to USA Today, The Today Show released a statement calling itself a 'news program' as opposed to 'light infotainment fluff' and confusing itself for a program known for its hard-hitting journalistic pieces.

"As a news program, the Today show doesn't allow guests to put restrictions on interviews," their statement read.

"In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview."

Of course, one must wonder if, say, Tom Cruise were to put restrictions on what he could be asked about - like, for instance, his religion or marital status - whether they'd take the same stance.

deadline.com report the distribution company behind Big Eyes, The Weinstein Company, as releasing a statement saying: "Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable (discussing)."

"We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We've been lucky enough to have her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off the set."

Adams was involved in the Sony hack by association, with the hackers revealing the female stars of David O'Russell's American Hustle, Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, were paid less than their male counterparts Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner and Bradley Cooper.
